Cusquenian Ceremonial Manta
This dramatic Vintage Peruvian textile comes from Willoc & Patacancha which is located in the Andes Mountains of Peru near Machu Picchu. It is made with handspun alpaca & lamb's wool on a traditional back strap handloom and usually takes several months to complete. All colors are natural organic dyes from plant sources and the black & browns are natural alpaca color. It's quite old and in excellent condition! The native Peruvian lady I purchased this manta from suggested that it is probably over 80 years old. The indigenous people use these intricate mantas for their special ceremonies.
Ideas for uses: spread it on the back of a chair, use it as a decorative bed throw or hang above the bed as a headboard wall hanging for a dramatic effect. This gorgeous throw with lots of intricate details is an easy way to add color, depth and interest to any large monochromatic wall.
